What Should I Teach My Child about Calling 9-1-1?

Teach them:
9-1-1 is there to help them and they should answer the operator's questions as best as they can
Their full names, parents' names, address and phone number
What an emergency is and when to call 9-1-1
The name of your employer and work phone number
That it is against the law to call 9-1-1 as a joke or prank
Not to be scared to call 9-1-1 if they are unsure whether they should call
If there is a true emergency, have them call 9-1-1 before calling you at work
To remain calm and speak clearly
